PRODUCT : Quattro Pro NUMBER : 588
VERSION : 1.0
OS : PC DOS
DATE : March 4, 1991 PAGE : 1/6
TITLE : Installing Quattro Pro version 1.01 on a Novell
Network
Run the INSTALL program as normal. Make sure to specify the
correct drive and/or directory where Quattro Pro will be
installed on the network (eg. P:\DOSAPP\QPRO).
After the program has been installed on the system and INSTALL
displays the following prompt:
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│The QUATTRO PRO files have now been installed on│
│your hard disk. In order to complete the │
│installation of QUATTRO PRO, please answer the │
│questions that follow as best you can. │
│ │
│ PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
*
*
*
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Any key - Continue │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Press any key to continue. The first prompt will allow you to
exit the install program by pressing Ctrl-X:
*
*
*
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ENTER - Continue F2 - Change Option Ctrl-X - Quit │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Press Ctrl-X to Exit the install program. At this time, there is
no need to set system parameters (monitor, graphics quality,
printer, etc.). This will leave the resource files (.RF files)
at the shipping defaults. Each user will specify his/her own
defaults once they get into the program.
Additional subdirectories must be created for each user that will
need access to Quattro Pro through the network. The user
subdirectories can be located on the network, or on the user's
local hard drive. In each user's subdirectory, copy the .MU
(menu) file associated with the menu tree that user will use.

Along with the .MU file, a .RF (resource) file needs to be copied
to each user's subdirectory. See the table below for the
appropriate set of .MU/.RF files:
╔═══════════╦════════════╦════════╗
║ Menu Tree ║ .MU ║ .RF ║
╠═══════════╬════════════╬════════╣
║Quattro Pro│ QUATTRO.MU │ RSC.RF ║
╟───────────┼────────────┼────────╢
║Quattro │ Q1.MU │ RSC.RF ║
╟───────────┼────────────┼────────╢
║123 │ 123.MU │ 123.RF ║
╚═══════════╧════════════╧════════╝
After the appropriate .MU and .RF files have been copied to each
user's subdirectory, create a resource directory (eg.
\DOSAPP\QPRO\RESC) where backup copies of the .MU and .RF files
can be stored. Copy all .MU and .RF files into the resource
directory.
After the .MU and .RF files have been safely stored in the
resource directory, delete them from the QPro directory. Use the
files in the resource directory for adding additional users to
access Quattro Pro.
Since each user will generate their own fonts, a separate FONTS
directory may help to keep things organized. However, this
subdirectory is not mandatory. If Quattro Pro does not find this
subdirectory, it will look for and generate fonts in the user's
directory.
See the figure below for an example of the directory structure
for installing Quattro Pro on a network:
P:\ ──┐
└──── DOSAPP
└──── QPRO

Additional directories can be set up for access by only specific
groups of individuals as a shared file directory. These
directories are set up by the network administrator.
NOTE: During installation, Quattro Pro copies sample (*.W??) and
clip-art (*.CLP) files to the program directory. You may wish to
copy these files to a shared data directory and/or delete them
from the program directory.
To run Quattro Pro from a network, follow the steps outlined
below:
o Create a network SEARCH drive for the Quattro Pro
directory.
o Issue the DOS command 'SHARE'. This allows more than one
user to access the data files.
o Change to the drive and/or directory where the user has
his/her resource files (CD DOSAPP\QPRO\USER1, for
example).
o Type Q, then press [ENTER].
BATCH FILE
Create a batch file for each user. This file can be stored on
the user's local drive or within their user directory on the
network. For example:
MAP INSERT S1:=CECIL/APPS:QPRO
SHARE
P:
CD \QPRO\USER1
Q
MAP DEL S1:
C:

NOTE: In this example batch file, a search drive is created
and appended to the beginning of the user's path. Upon exiting
QPRO, the drive is deleted. This will alleviate the possibility
of creating multiple search drives every time the batch file is
executed. The SEARCH statement can be added to the user's login
script for the network through Novell's SYSCON utility. By doing
so, the SEARCH commands within the example batch file can be
omitted. Defining the SEARCH directory in the user's login
script is the preferred method.
NETWORK RIGHTS
The following list of directories shows the suggested rights each
user should have for each of the directories on the network:
QPRO (program system directory) -> READ, OPEN, WRITE, SEARCH
USER# (user resource directory) -> All except PARENTAL
FONTS (user font directory) -> All except PARENTAL
DATA (shared data directory) -> All except PARENTAL
NOTE: Due to Quattro Pro's download feature for HP Laserjet
series printers, the user's must have WRITE rights to the \QPRO
directory. If HP Laserjet printers are not being used on the
network, the user's do not need this right. Otherwise, provide
them with WRITE rights, assign a READ-ONLY attribute to all files
in the \QPRO directory (ATTRIB +R *.*), and assign the READ/WRITE
attribute to the file LASERJET.BGI (ATTRIB -R LASERJET.BGI).
If it is not possible to provide the user's with WRITE access to
the \QPRO directory, place the command SET DOWNLOAD=N in the
user's batch file for executing Quattro Pro. This will disable
Quattro Pro's download feature. In this mode, all graphics and
final quality printing will be bitmapped to the printer.
USER DEFAULTS
The first time each user accesses the program, they will set
their own default options. The following options should be set
by each user:

VERSION : 1.0
OS : PC DOS

o </><Options><Startup><Directory>
This defines the user's default data directory.
o </><Options><Hardware><Screen><Screen Type>
This defines the user's display type. Quattro Pro will
normally autodetect the screen type. However, by
designating a specific screen type, load time can be
increased.
o </><Options><Colors><Palettes>
This option defines a default color palette. In most
cases, setting this option is not necessary unless you
have a special display/monitor setup (eg.
VGA/Monochrome).
o </><Options><Hardware><Printers><1st/2nd Printer>
The user can define up to two unique printers to use and
save them as defaults.
o </><Options><Other><Paradox>
If the users will be accessing Paradox files from the
network, this option must be defined.
o </><Options><Update>
This will save all the user defaults to their resource
file.
PRINTING
To configure the network for printing Quattro Pro graphics
(Graphs and Final Quality output), make sure the following
options are set for each user's default configuration found in
Novell's PRINTCON:
File contents: Byte stream
Auto endcap: Yes

If you encounter extraneous blank pages before or after printing
to a network printer, use device Parallel 1 or Parallel 2. Do
not use the logical device options LPT1 or LPT2. This device
option is set through:
</><Options><Hardware><Printers><1st/2nd Printer><Device>
The Parallel 1 device is equivalent to LPT1 and Parallel 2 is
equivalent to LPT2. If your network printers are installed using
LPT3, LPT4, or LPT5, you must redefine these options for LPT1 or
LPT2 and use Parallel 1 or Parallel 2 Device options within
QUATTRO PRO.
